Installing the GECAMed client manually

Java Webstart is the preferred method of launching a GECAMed client. It is very flexible as it downloads and updates all the clients on different workstations automatically after a new GECAMed version has been deploied.

However, there are also a few drawbacks, the biggest of them being that Java Webstart requires a valid Code Signing Certificate delivered with the GECAMed application in order to be able to launch the GECAMed clients. As a consequence, you need to install a recent GECAMed version when the certificate for your current version is about to expire, which happens roughly every 2 years.

If you haven't upgraded in time and GECAMed won't start for that reason, there is a workaround that avoids Java Webstart entirely. The idea is to install the GECAMed client software manually on every client computer. Naturally, the advantages of Java Webstart such as automatic client upgrades are lost.

To do so, proceed as follows:

• Open your Webbrowser and type the following address: http://localhost:8080/gecamed
• If you are starting GECAMed from an other machine, please replace localhost with the IP of your server in that address: http://IP_OF_YOUR_SERVER:8080/gecamed
• Scroll down the page to: Installing the GECAMed client manually
• Download GECAMedClient.zip
• Unzip the file into a directory of your choice (right click EXTRACT ALL)
• Start the GECAMed client with the script corresponding to your OS (startGECAMedClientOnWindows.bat for Windows, respectively startGECAMedClientOnMac.command on Mac OSX).

A desktop shortcut for quick launch will also be created.
